Burra Creek Town

Last February 8, during our camping, after we set up our tent and have our lunch in the campsite, we agreed to find the town proper of Burra Creek to look for general store to buy some of our needs especially more water supply and to fill up petrol. After that, we wonder around the market square and check with information center so we can ask what attractions to visit in Burra Creek. The lady was very helpful and kind enough to give us information and free attraction  sites to visit. She gave us a map and mark the nearby look out and historic building like the St Marys Church stained glass window, she suggested other places to visit but they were closed during month of February because it's the holiday of working volunteers after the busy Christmas period they've worked. So we are not on a good timing to visit there. We just drive on a couple of attractions that afternoon and do our roadtrip on windmill farm

Burra Creek is well know to be a copper mine township. We've gathered that Burra Creek supplied 89% of South Australia and 5% of the world's copper. The copper mine was established in 1848 but the mining copper deposit was discovered in 1845, how amazing is that to know some historical background of the town but due to the reduce population the town was now a farming activities and just a preserve historical town.

Here's some photos we took along the way as we drive around.

Worlds End Reserve Campground

Last Saturday, we went for an overnight camping at Burra Creek, more than 2 hours drive from Adelaide. Sometimes we are unorganised with our plans, or let say we don't really make plans or itinerary on which places we are going to visit. As long as we know which town to go and campground to stay, that's all that matters.

We like bush camping, especially those campgrounds that has walking and hiking trails, or nearby the sea or river. We like adventures and excitement so we surprise ourselves of whatever places we may come up to visit while doing the roadtrip.

Worlds End campground is huge, it has it's own designated campsite with firepit, the grounds surface were level, some has picnic table. It's shaded with big gumtrees and the camp was surrounded by acres of lands, valleys and mountains.

Since it's not long weekend or school holiday the campground were  not busy, only a few campers are present, so we occupied a huge campsite for ourselves that is closer to the toilet. It's very peaceful and relaxing to be disconnected to the outside world, no mobile network and we focus ourselves to have a quality time, play loud music and random jokes to share.  The night was our highlight, it was full moon, it looks like a burning sun that night, it's beautiful.  If late hubby is with us, he will be our leader on stargazing, he loves it and even we get to count some moving satellites that we sometimes mistaken as the star.

During day time we explore the town, we just use the maps we got on information center.  I will share more photos on my next blog.

Here are some photos of the campground:

Our campsite near the toilet

Our friend(Lemon) brought his Philippines flag, so he can hang them everytime we go camping

Our accommodation for one night, my sister is sleeping on air mattress while I'll be sleeping on strecher bed.

Part of our campsite, it was very huge

We set up our tent under the gumtree, there's no weak branches so we are safe.

We went for a walk and we pass through this creek

A little bit of hike is not bad, we like to hike up to the top but there's a fence,  with private property, and no trespassing sign

We got to witness the sunset during our walk

The view while driving to enter into the campground area, it a gravel road but very smooth surface

Stained Glass Windows

These photos were taken during our weekend camping at  Burra Creek, SA. One of the attraction we've got to visit is the  St Mary Anglican Church which is famous of it's stained glass window design. The first Anglican church of England that was opened in 1848.

The world is my playground

Our random unplanned camping and roadtrips, Along with me is always my sister, Julie, our good friend Lemon, and other friends who are welcome to tag along with us. My sister, (Julie) and Lemon, on today's camping at Worlds End Gorge, Burra Creek, SA

One of the outdoor activities the Australians loves to do is camping. I and my late hubby start to go camping last January 2017, it was Australia Day that time. We joined the camping trip of my sister's friends. On that first camp, we don't have the complete camping gear with us, we are uncomfortable on our first night, it was very cold and can't sleep well, though it's summer but because we camp on the beach front, yet we  manage to cope the coldness.

It was a good outdoor experience, it was fun and enjoyable to be out and about. I get to see the beauty of nature that was hidden on the outback side of the city of Adelaide. I started to enjoy camping especially the scenic tour and coast to coast drive was the best and memorable ones. From then, if I'm free and especially during the long weekend of South Australia, we go for camping. Overtime late hubby and I have invested on some camping gears for our comfort. From quality tents, cooking wares, FWD car with roofracks and awning, cb radio and other portable stuff that we need especially those that minimising the space.

That's a bit of our camping story. Until I update you on our next adventure.
